Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt receives a birthday message from her boyfriend that could affect Patrick Mahomes

Gracie Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs heiress, turned 27 on March 29, and her boyfriend Derek Green marked the occasion on social media, sharing moments of their relationship while hinting at optimism for her personal life and the team’s upcoming season.

Green posted photos and videos showing them celebrating together and watching NFL games, highlighting their bond and shared enthusiasm for the Chiefs, who endured a difficult 2025 campaign, finishing 6-11 and missing the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.

“Happy birthday, Gracie! Love you and can’t wait for this to be your best year yet,” Green wrote on Instagram, which Hunt reshared, adding “I love you.”

So for Gracie Hunt, the agenda for the remainder of 2026 could be both romance and the hope that this year could bring positive changes for them and the Chiefs as the team looks to recover from a challenging year.

The Chiefs struggled across multiple fronts in 2025. Early losses, close-game failures, and injuries exposed weaknesses in both offense and defense, while poor road performance and inconsistent play prevented the team from sustaining momentum or contending for a playoff spot.

Kansas City started the season with back-to-back losses, a stark contrast to previous years when the team rallied from adversity. Late-game collapses in tight contests compounded the poor start, eroding confidence and turning a potentially competitive season into a rebuilding challenge.

Injuries played a major role. Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 15, backups were unable to produce at the same level, and the offensive line missed key starters, weakening protection for Mahomes and limiting the running game, leaving the offense inconsistent.

Defensively, the team struggled to stop opponents in crucial moments. Combined with a 1-7 record on the road, Kansas City’s inability to execute in late-game situations allowed rivals to control the clock, dictate tempo, and secure wins that the Chiefs had previously made routine.

How have the Chiefs set themselves up to recover from the 2025 NFL season?

The Chiefs acted quickly in 2026 to address weaknesses, firstly by parting ways with offensive coordinator Matt Nagy whilst bringing back Eric Bieniemy to the Arrowhead whilst Andy Reid remains the head coach.

Alongside this, they kept tight end Travis Kelce with a three-year, $54.7 million extension that is a defacto one-year deal in reality, preserving a key target for Mahomes and maintaining offensive continuity, quelling speculation about Kelce’s possible retirement.

They re-signed wide receiver Tyquan Thornton to a two-year, $11 million contract, restoring a deep-threat option capable of stretching defenses and opening intermediate passing lanes, giving Mahomes more flexibility and helping balance the passing attack.

The team added running back Kenneth Walker III on a three-year, $45 million deal. The Super Bowl MVP provides explosive plays and consistent yardage after contact, easing pressure on Mahomes and the offensive line.

He could be vital in improving time of possession, and giving the offense a reliable playmaker to complement the passing game whilst adding a key ground game the team desperately lacked in 2025 as Isiah Pacheco struggled.

To the defensive line, Kansas City signed tackle Khyiris Tonga to strengthen the interior. His size and disruption improve pressure on opposing quarterbacks, forcing sacks and giving more time to his own offense to try to win the game.

He will work alongside Chris Jones to create better field position and these moves show the Chiefs’ strategy to balance veteran leadership with new talent.
