In a heartwarming union that brings together two NFL legacies, Gracie Hunt, the 27-year-old daughter of Kansas City Chiefs owner and CEO Clark Hunt, has announced her engagement to Derek Green.

The announcement, shared on Instagram, featured a series of romantic photos from a desert proposal, capturing the emotion of the moment as friends and family looked on. Gracie accompanied the post with the caption, “It was always you,” and included the Bible verse Romans 8:28 to celebrate their engagement.

The proposal itself was a picture of romance. Gracie was shown wearing a diamond-encrusted split shank ring featuring a colored central stone, while Derek got down on one knee amidst a scenic desert backdrop. The couple’s families were present to witness the intimate occasion, with Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt spotted standing nearby alongside his wife Tavia.

The engagement clearly marked a joyful family affair, with Gracie‘s mother expressing her excitement online: “DREAMS DO COME TRUE!! Congratulations you two!! We love you so much!!!” Gracie‘s sister, Ava, also added a heartfelt comment, writing, “I am overjoyed.”

Although the couple went public with their relationship in April 2025, their connection goes back much further. Gracie revealed in a past interview with People magazine that she and Derek had known each other their entire lives.

“We would actually play together as babies during the Chiefs’ Christmas parties every year,” she recalled, “and then we reconnected as adults in 2017 and met on the sidelines pregame. We reconnected in early March and have been inseparable ever since.”

The depth of their bond adds an extra layer of meaning to this engagement, highlighting a relationship built on lifelong friendship and shared experiences.

Relationship rooted in history and shared passions

Derek Green comes from a family with its own NFL pedigree. He is the son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green, who led Kansas City’s offense for six seasons and enjoyed a 15-year career in the league. Derek himself played football at Southern Methodist University before moving on to Long Island University and later competing professionally for several teams across Europe.

The engagement therefore represents a literal merging of two NFL families, linking generations of football talent and fandom.

As Chiefs Kingdom celebrates this personal milestone, fans have expressed excitement not just for the couple but for the symbolic unity of two footballing families.
