Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt ‘blames’ Harrison Butker for influencing Patrick Mahomes in best way

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is known not just for his precision on the field but also for his outspoken faith.

His Instagram bio, which reads “Christus Regnat!” (Latin for “Christ reigns”), and frequent references to Bible verses on social media reflect his strong religious beliefs. While Butker‘s faith has sparked mixed reactions from the public, Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt sees his influence as overwhelmingly positive-especially on Patrick Mahomes.

Speaking on the February 5 episode of the Gaines for Girls Podcast with Riley Gaines, Hunt praised Butker‘s impact on the Chiefs organization.

“I think what’s been really cool to see this year especially but you’ve definitely seen it in other years is I just think it’s such a sense of iron sharpening iron and Harrison and his boldness in his faith encourages, you know, other guys to be bold in their faith,” Hunt said. “And um and you’ve seen Patrick be so bold in his faith and thanking God right off the bat when we won the AFC Championship on Sunday.”

Mahomes Publicly Embraces His Faith

Hunt’s remarks came after Mahomes openly credited God following the Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game victory over the Buffalo Bills.

“First off, I want to give all glory to God,” Mahomes declared in his postgame interview, a statement that even caught Hunt by surprise.

The Chiefs‘ season had been filled with challenges. Their offense struggled to consistently put up big numbers, failing to score 30 points in the regular season and in their Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans.

However, against the Bills, the Chiefs broke through with a 32-29 victory. Mahomes contributed with a rushing touchdown in the second quarter, while Butker delivered a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

With the Super Bowl now just days away, the Chiefs have shifted their focus to preparing for their February 11 matchup in New Orleans. Amidst the pressure of a potential historic three-peat, the team is determined to block out distractions.

Harrison Butker Avoids Controversy Before Super Bowl

Butker, who has faced criticism in the past for his outspoken views, skillfully avoided controversy when questioned about LGBTQ+ issues during Super Bowl Opening Night on February 3.

“I understand that this is a great evening and we’re here to focus on the game,” Butker responded, deflecting attempts to draw him into a political debate.

This is not the first time Butker has been at the center of controversy. During a May 2023 commencement speech at Benedictine College, he made headlines by suggesting that most female graduates were more excited about marriage and motherhood than pursuing careers.

He also criticized Catholic leaders for promoting gender ideologies and spoke out against abortion, prompting the NFL to distance itself from his remarks.

Despite the controversy surrounding him, Butker remains a key figure for the Chiefs, both on and off the field. With a chance to lead Kansas City to a third straight Super Bowl victory, his focus is firmly on the game. Whether his influence on Mahomes and the team extends beyond the locker room, one thing is clear-faith remains a strong presence in the Chiefs‘ championship culture.
