The Kansas City Chiefs‘ Harrison Butker backs Donald Trump‘s decision to pick Brian Burch to serve as the US ambassador to the Vatican as the outspoken conservative kicker weighs in on politics once again.
The 29-year-old is a practicing Roman Catholic and has previously drawn criticism for his views on women, the LGBTQ+ community and even Jewish people as he mixes Christian doctrine with politics.
A public member of the MAGA camp, the NFL player is not afraid to cast his thoughts on the world, even if his team publicly disagrees, and he has done so once again as he describes Burch as a leading voice in the community and a good representative to meet with Pope Francis.

“Very happy to hear that @BrianBurchCV has been selected to be the next Ambassador to the Vatican,’ Butker wrote via X.com, formerly Twitter. “Brian has been a leading voice in the Catholic community here in America through his organization (CatholicVote).
“And now in his new role, he can take those gifts to Rome. Pray for him and his family as they embark on this new journey.”
What will Burch do?
In his role, Burch will be accountable on behalf of the United States to the Holy See, which is the governing body of the Roman Catholic Church and exists as a sovereign entity under international law.
There, he will liaison with the Holy See on issues such as human rights, religious freedom, humanitarian efforts, climate change and fighting problems in society such as human trafficking, wars around the globe and health crises such as pandemics.
Because the Vatican wields considerable moral influence over its 1.3 billion Catholic followers worldwide, the role is a lot more important than it seems on paper with the Pope having the potential to be as influential as the American president.
The ambassador helps ensure the USA and the Vatican can collaborate effectively on issues of mutual concern, even when there are disagreements. Donald Trump will be inaugurated on January 20, which is when Burch will begin his role.
