Chiefs are leaving Kansas City, “special announcement” incoming

Modernity has arrived, and with it the shift toward contemporary venues that offer greater comfort to fans while they enjoy games featuring their favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to the Kansas City Star, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly plans to make a special announcement after meeting with the Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council. During that meeting, state lawmakers will be “poised to discuss a not-yet-disclosed proposal between the Chiefs and the state of Kansas.”

Based on information previously made public, an agreement has been reached to build a new stadium with a dome included, which would be located on the Dorothy Gale side of the Missouri border.

However, it has also been reported that the Kansas Department of Commerce said Kansas is “aggressively pursuing” a new stadium for the Chiefs, but that no “final agreement” had been reached.

There may now be an agreement that, while not definitive, could provide clarity and help move the process closer to a concrete decision in the near future.

According to information from the Associated Press, franchise owner Clark Hunt and other team representatives will be present at this Monday, December 22 meeting, where it is expected they will announce the construction of a $2 billion stadium that could potentially host a Super Bowl.

The proposal states that 70 percent of the cost would be covered by Kansas through STAR bonds, with additional financing coming from state taxes as well as stadium-related sales and alcohol revenue generated within the venue.

Kansas City, the State of Missouri, and the new executive team at Jackson County have continued negotiations with our teams through this week.

Kansas City and its partners have made compelling but responsible offers north of $1.5 billion with identifiable and backed sources of funds to maintain the legacy of Arrowhead Stadium while updating its facilities to remain among the finest in the National Football League and in the world. . . .Any decision to depart from such a legacy home would have no reflection on the outstanding people of Kansas City and Jackson County who for fifty years have given their passion, energy, and public investment into building the Chiefs into one of America’s finest sports brands.

The mayor said.

We’ll reserve further comment until we hear from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said in a statement issued to the Star.

Last April 2024, residents of Jackson County overwhelmingly rejected a ballot measure that would have financed renovations to Arrowhead Stadium and a new stadium for the Kansas City Royals.

This may be one of the main reasons the team has considered relocating; the power of the electorate made itself felt, and the majority decision carried weight. Now, if local leaders want the team to remain, they will need to assemble a financial package capable of supporting extensive renovations to the current venue that has long served as the Chiefs’ home.
