The Chicago Sky have not gotten off to the best start this WNBA season. With a poor 7-15 record, injuries are just one more reason for the bad streak they are going through.
Their most outstanding players such as Kamilla Cardoso, Ariel Atkins or Angel Reese herself have had to miss team games. Not to mention Courtney Vandersloot, who suffered a torn right ACL and will miss the rest of the 2025 season.
Chicago is coming off losses to the Minnesota Lynx and Atlanta Dream. With so many injuries and losses, the team was left with only 9 players available for the game against Lynx on Tuesday, July 22 at the Target Center.
New signing at Sky
The arrival of a reinforcement was as necessary as it was eminent, and to the rescue came the former New York Liberty point guard. Sky signed free agent guard Marquesha Davis to a seven-day contract to help them overcome the crisis.
Davis was cut by the New York team on June 13, so the 24-year-old has a chance to join the Sky and contribute to a struggling team in need of wins.
The newcomer played for the Ole Miss Rebels in college and, being selected 11th overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, spent two seasons in New York. There, she won the title with the Liberty in 2024, appeared in 29 total games and totaled 32 points and 15 rebounds, accumulating 111 minutes of participation.
Of course, the move generated an immediate reaction from Sky fans, but also from her teammates, including star player Angel Reese.
The Chicago Skyforward has averaged 14.0 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this season. However, her numbers are not reflected in the team’s results, so she hopes Marquesha‘s help will change the situation.
Excited, Reese shared the news on her official X account and wrote a welcome message to Davis: “Let’s get it Q!“
Now, it only remains to wait to know if Marquesha‘ arrival to the team will really be as expected, both for the team and for herself.
