The Chicago Sky lost their second straight game on Tuesday, dropping them to 2-6 this year in the WNBA. Because of this, team general manager Jeff Pagliocca spoke about the importance of star Angel Reese in this process, who, even with poor results, has fostered a supportive atmosphere in the locker room.
Reese had a standout performance in Tuesday’s game against the reigning champion New York Liberty, despite the 85-66 loss. She scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, along with three assists and two steals.
What did Jeff Pagliocca say about Angel Reese?
Pagliocca recently spoke with the Chicago Sun Times about the team’s slow start. He discussed Reese’s efforts this season and how she has treated her teammates despite the Sky’s losing record. “She’s been putting in the time. She’s been a great teammate,” Pagliocca said.
In that sense, the boss highlighted the fact that Reese herself recognizes that we should use her in a variety of ways, but they are simply still trying to identify the most advantageous part of it, as new coach Tyler Marsh is still learning how to run the team after being Becky Hammon’s assistant with the Las Vegas Aces.
How is Angel Reese playing this season with the Chicago Sky?
Despite averaging a double-double, his production has declined slightly since his historic rookie season. He scored 13.6 points and grabbed 13.1 rebounds per game in 2024, but this season he’s only contributing 10.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per night.
In addition to Reese, the team has been boosted by veteran point guard Ariel Atkins‘ 13.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per night. The Sky will look to snap their two-game losing streak on Friday when they travel to face the Atlanta Dream (6-3). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
