Chicago Sky fans fear Kamilla Cardoso will leave because of Angel Reese after latest defeat

The Chicago Sky are already facing turmoil just two games into the 2025 WNBA season. During a tough loss to the New York Liberty on Thursday night, All-Star forward Angel Reese’s uncharacteristic performance stirred up visible friction within the team.

Reese, who played 28 minutes, did not convert a single shot throughout the game. Her frustration was apparent when she seemed fixated on scoring herself rather than involving her teammates, especially in the paint. A pivotal moment came when she declined to pass the ball, stubbornly trying to break through the Liberty’s aggressive defense on her own.

That decision didn’t sit well with the Sky’s center, Kamilla Cardoso. After Reese missed her third shot in a row, Cardoso noticeably distanced herself from the group. While it’s possible she was positioning early for defense, many interpreted her actions as a sign of frustration with Reese’s refusal to share the ball.

WNBA fans quickly picked up on the tension, speculating that Cardoso may be reaching her limit playing alongside Reese, though no official confirmation has emerged. Social media was buzzing with comments like:

“It’s the way Kamilla just walks away. She want to get traded so bad. Sick of this.”

“Kamilla Cardoso is SO tired of watching this [expletive].”

“Kamilla need to get out of Chicago asap. Go somewhere where she dominate the post area. Angel in the way.”

Others noted the Sky’s apparent struggle to find cohesion: “Everyone been saying it. The team tries to play through the wrong player that it makes it miserable for everyone else. Good coaches / players don’t force anything.”

Early season struggles pile pressure on the Sky

The Chicago Sky are currently 0-2 on the young season, with both losses by large margins. The combination of poor offensive execution and internal discord has left fans and analysts questioning the team’s direction.

Their next contest is set for Sunday against the Los Angeles Sparks – a matchup that presents an opportunity for the Sky to right the ship and secure their first win. However, for lasting success, the team must address more than just their on-court performance.

Building trust and chemistry among key players like Reese and Cardoso will be essential. The recent episode highlights how individual ambitions, when not aligned with team dynamics, can disrupt overall harmony.

The Sky’s coaching staff faces the challenge of managing these interpersonal dynamics while also refining their tactical approach. How they navigate these early hurdles could set the tone for the rest of the season.

For now, the Chicago Sky find themselves in a precarious position, both on the scoreboard and within the locker room. Overcoming these obstacles will require patience, communication, and a renewed commitment to teamwork.
