Chicago Sky fans are calling for Tyler Marsh to step down as coach and already have the perfect candidate in mind

Chicago Sky is not going through its best moment. Currently, it has a 9-26 record and is in twelfth place in the WNBA standings, just ahead of Dallas Wings (9-28).

Even with nine games left in the season, the team has been virtually eliminated from playoff contention. And fans, overwhelmed by the results, are calling for the coach’s resignation.

Marsh’s replacement

The truth is that injuries could be one of the reasons for such poor results, but not the only one. Tyler Marsh had to use 13 different starting lineups to compensate for the loss of team stars such as Ariel Atkins and Angel Reese.

It all started with the unfortunate loss of Courtney Vandersloot on June 7 in a non-contact game against the Indiana Fever. The legendary point guard suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee, an injury that required surgery and forced her to remain off the court for the rest of the season.

Despite not playing, the 36-year-old five-time All-Star has accompanied her team and cheered them on like any other fan. In fact, in Thursday’s victory over the New York Liberty, the Sky icon was present and not only watched her teammates closely, but also offered them key advice.

Her 15-year career in the WNBA and leadership quickly established her as an icon of the franchise, not only for her fans, but also for her players, who listened to her attentively.

This moment did not go unnoticed by Chicago fans, who thought she looked like an experienced coach. Her age and serious injury led them to believe that her retirement might be near, and on X, they named Vandersloot as the ideal candidate to take over as head coach of the Sky:

“Sloot should be the coach fr,” one commented.

“Is it too soon for her to replace ykw, & coach NEXT season,” a follower wondered.

“Bye tyler,” another replied.

Meanwhile, Marsh and Sky are preparing to face A’ja Wilson’s Las Vegas Aces on Monday, August 25, again at Wintrust Arena, and try to improve their numbers. Will Vandersloot be there to support and guide them?
