The Chicago Bears are reportedly keen on interviewing Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman for their head coaching vacancy. As per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Bears have been doing thorough research into Freeman, who is currently leading the Fighting Irish to a national championship game against Ohio State on January 20.
At 39, Marcus Freeman has already established himself as a rising star in the world of college football. Now in his third full season as Notre Dame’s head coach, Freeman has compiled an impressive 33-9 record, including a remarkable 14-1 performance so far this season. His success has generated increasing interest from NFL teams, including the Bears, who are seeking a long-term solution to their coaching woes.

Freeman’s impressive record and future in the NFL
Freeman has previously addressed the speculation regarding his potential interest in the NFL, especially after he signed a lucrative contract extension with Notre Dame, securing his services for six years in total. Although he is locked into a multi-year deal, which includes significant pay increases making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the country, the possibility of a future in the NFL has not been ruled out.
While Freeman’s immediate focus remains on the national championship, which he plans to coach in less than two weeks, the Bears are still hopeful he will entertain their offer after the game. According to Pelissero, Freeman is expected to consider a move to the NFL in the future, given his growing success and age.
The Bears, having recently parted ways with Matt Eberflus, are in search of a head coach who can guide their franchise back to prominence. The team is also looking to develop young quarterback Caleb Williams, the number one overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. With pieces in place on both sides of the ball, the right head coach could be the key to turning the Bears‘ fortunes around.
