Cheryl Reeve slams the WNBA for the snub to the Lynx amid Caitlin Clark selection: “I’m truly disappointed”

The Minnesota Lynx might boast the WNBA’s best record, but that hasn’t stopped head coach Cheryl Reeve from launching a scathing complaint at the league regarding this year’s All-Star selections.

Despite being named a head coach for Caitlin Clark’sAll-Star team, Reeve is furious that her dominant Lynx squad, currently leading the league, received what she considers to be an unfair number of All-Star nods.

In a candid post-game interview, Reeve voiced her “disappointment that the coaches voted for three guards in their selection for All-Stars” over her own deserving players.

She specifically referenced the omission of Lynx guard Kayla McBride, despite her strong season averages. The three All-Star reserve guards who were voted in by coaches over McBride include the Mystics’ Sonia Citron, the Storm’s Skylar Diggins, and the Dream’s Rhyne Howard.

History supports Reeve and the Lynx

Reeve highlighted a historical precedent that she believes was ignored. In 2024, the top-seeded Liberty featured three All-Stars, and the year prior, the championship-winning Las Vegas Aces boasted four.

“I don’t know why only Phee (Napheesa Collier) and Courtney (Williams) are All-Stars when you have the best team in the league by a few games,” Reeve stated, expressing her frustration that teams significantly lower in the standings received more All-Star selections.

“Historically, teams at the top get a minimum of three, oftentimes four. Really disappointing. Really, really happy for Courtney,” said Reeve.

Reeve isn’t afraid to hold the WNBA accountable

The controversy adds another layer of intrigue to what is already a highly anticipated All-Star Game. While Caitlin Clark, the league’s top vote-getter, will be captaining one team with Reeve as her coach, the behind-the-scenes drama over selections is clearly simmering.

It appears that even with a coaching spot secured, Reeve is not shying away from holding the WNBA accountable for what she perceives as a slight against her league-leading Lynx.
