In recent years, the world of football has undergone a tremendous modernisation at an architectural level. Numerous teams have decided to build new stadiums or sports centres that meet the needs of the times and present all possible innovations.

The latest team to join this trend is Chelsea. The London club once planned a move to a new stadium. These redevelopment plans included a budget of 500 million pounds and a 60,000-seater stadium. The project was launched in 2015, when Roman Abramovich was still the owner, but was scrapped three years later.

But, as reported by The Sun last February, Chelsea’s current owner, Todd Boehly, is considering moving the club’s headquarters away from Stamford Bridge, specifically to Earls Court. “I think we have to think long term and what we’re trying to accomplish. We have a great stadium development opportunity that we need to take advantage of,” Boehly told Bloomberg.

However, the boss confessed the difficulty of finding a new home: “In terms of sports infrastructure, we are at the forefront of the sports wave. We have between 16 and 20 years to solve this. Obviously, within London the situation is really complex. It’s not like we’re building something in the middle of a rural environment.”

Criticism of his management

In addition to the possible stadium move, Boehly also wanted to talk about his management and the negative comments he has received during his time in charge of Chelsea: “Criticism is normal. The sooner you learn that you won’t be able to keep all people happy, the sooner you can get freedom. So you don’t have to live with their words.”

Finally, the London club’s manager spoke about the current transfer policy, and the one the club has had in recent years: “You can’t turn left and then right every three minutes. It’s hard to find the players we want. You don’t get them in the supermarket.”
