Julio Cesar Chavez Jr broke his silence after being detained in the United States and spoke about the most recent fight of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, in which he was defeated by Terence Crawford in Las Vegas on September 13.
In an interview with TUDN, Chavez Jr. revealed how he felt about the defeat of his 2017 rival.
“Canelo, now that he lost, we were talking about that, the truth is that there was always a rivalry with him, but it hurts me that he loses, the truth is, I’m proud of Canelo because at the time of the fight that was between the two of them, it’s good that Canelo has stayed with that baton because he is the disciplined one, the one who has worked hard.”
Likewise, Chavez Jr. criticized Mexicans who celebrated Terence’s victory over the Mexican.
“It’s sad for Mexican boxing because it was convenient for Canelo to win (against Crawford) so that there would be more boxing in Mexico, but he’s a great champion, we have to recognize him, a great fighter, there are details there that we all know that people don’t like very much, he has done incredible things, the money he is making.
“I am proud of Canelo for putting Mexican boxing on a high and I even saw that now they were angry with him, as if they wanted him to lose because he charges a lot and gives his package, but it is part of boxing… a rematch for him to win, a rematch.”
