Benjamin School golfer Charlie Woods is demonstrating both discipline and performance as he continues to carve his own path in junior golf.

The 16-year-old, guided by head coach Toby Harbeck, has committed to a demanding training regimen over the past two years, including dropping more than 10 pounds to elevate his competitive edge. That work has translated directly into results.

Earlier this year, Woods claimed his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) title at the 2025 Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort. With rounds of 70, 65, and 66, he finished at 15-under par, three strokes clear of the field. It marked a turning point in his junior career, vaulting him from outside the top 600 to the top 15 in the AJGA Rolex Rankings.

Benjamin School Triumphs at the American Heritage Invitational

Fresh from his individual breakthrough, Woods played a central role in Benjamin School’s team victory at the 2025 American Heritage Invitational, contested at Lago Mar Country Club. The squad, competing from championship tees set at 7,036 yards, delivered a consistent team score of 295 to secure their first tournament title of the season.

The victory came against strong opposition, including American Heritage – Plantation, Columbus High School, Cardinal Gibbons, North Broward Prep, and St. Thomas Aquinas. Benjamin’s margin of victory over American Heritage – Delray was decisive, 295-333, underscoring the team’s depth and composure.

The win extends Benjamin School’s tradition of success in golf. The program captured the state championship in 2023 at Mission Inn and Resort, a rain-affected two-day competition where Woods was also part of the lineup. Last season, the school lifted the same American Heritage Invitational trophy with a team score of 286, once again with Woods contributing to the effort.

The school celebrated this year’s achievement through its athletics account, acknowledging both the resilience and consistency of the players who carried Benjamin to the title.

Woods‘ commitment is not confined to high school tournaments. His victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May also secured his place in the AJGA Junior Players Championship, scheduled for August 28-31, 2025, at the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. This prestigious invitational annually gathers the top 58 boys from the Rolex AJGA Rankings alongside international qualifiers, placing Woods among the most elite junior golfers in the world.

The qualification process was rigorous. Invitations were issued on July 8, and Woods confirmed his participation on July 9, ahead of the July 15 deadline. His swift decision highlighted the importance he places on competing against the strongest field available in junior golf.

Coach Harbeck has emphasized the professionalism with which Woods now approaches competition. “He’s not just showing up and swinging. He’s preparing like a pro,” Harbeck noted, underlining the maturity with which the teenager is handling his rapid ascent.

From his physical transformation to his leadership role at Benjamin School and his rapid climb in the AJGA rankings, Charlie Woods is steadily proving himself as more than a promising name in the sport. With the Junior Players Championship on the horizon, his progression will continue to be closely followed in the coming weeks.
