Charlie Woods is headed to Texas: Dates, format & why this tournament matters

A few weeks ago, Charlie Woods walked away with a major junior golf win-his biggest yet. At the 2025 Team TaylorMade Invitational, he took down two of the country’s top-ranked juniors, including No. 1 Miles Russell, snapping Russell’s win streak in the process. It was a performance that turned heads, even if some experts still aren’t giving him his due.

Now, he’s proven it wasn’t a one-off. At the U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifier held at Eagle Trace Golf Club, Woods once again rose to the moment. After an up-and-down round that included early birdies and a string of bogeys, he found himself in a three-way tie for the final qualifying spot. But when it came time for a playoff, he didn’t flinch.

Woods outlasted Oscar Crowe and Matthew Marigliano in the knockout holes, earning his trip to Dallas for the 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship. The win also marks another important milestone in what could be Charlie’s final season as an amateur before going pro.

Texas Awaits: Format, Schedule & What’s at Stake

The 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship runs from July 21 to July 26 in Dallas, Texas. The opening rounds of stroke play will take place at Trinity Forest Golf Club and Brook Hollow Golf Club, splitting the massive 264-player field across both venues. Only the top 64 scores after two days will move on to match play, where things really get interesting.

Match play begins July 23, and by the end of the week, only one golfer will be left standing with the championship title. It’s a format that rewards consistency, mental toughness, and the ability to win under pressure.

It’s also the same title Tiger Woods won three times-a feat no one else has matched. That adds a bit of legacy pressure, but Charlie seems more focused on his own path than chasing records. And yes, chances are good that Tiger will be there, quietly walking the fairways and watching his son compete.

This year’s event could be one of Charlie’s last shots at the junior amateur crown. At 16, he’s already looking ahead to the professional ranks. But before that chapter begins, there’s still work to be done-and a championship to chase.

Charlie’s recent wins show he’s more than ready.
