Charlie Woods and his ‘brother’ Kai Trump end Sage Valley Invitational in sulk: therapy at home with Tiger and Vanessa

The 2025 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley proved to be a harsh reality check for two highly anticipated young golfers – Charlie Woods and Kai Trump.

While the tournament highlighted the brilliance of rising star Miles Russell, it also exposed the struggles of the two youngsters who are under immense pressure to live up to their famous names.

Russell, who began playing golf at just two years old, continued his remarkable junior career by clinching the prestigious tournament. Trailing by four strokes after day three, the 16-year-old rallied with a brilliant final-day performance to score 9-under, surpassing Joshua Bai to claim victory.

The win adds to his impressive resume, which includes triumphs at the Junior PGA Championship and the Junior Players Championship in 2023.

However, the spotlight was not so kind to Charlie Woods and Kai Trump, both of whom left the tournament in frustration for very different reasons.

Disappointment For Woods and Trump

For Charlie Woods, the event was a glaring disappointment. The young golfer managed a 1-over score on the last day, but his overall performance left him tied for 25th place with a score of 8-over par in a field of 36 golfers.

As the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, expectations are sky-high, and this poor showing is a significant blow to his aspirations.

Charlie‘s frustration likely stems from his inability to produce the kind of performance expected from someone carrying the Woods name.

Adding to the family pressure, Tiger Woods has recently been seen celebrating his daughter Sam Woods‘ success on the soccer field, as her team won the state championship.

While Sam Woods thrived in her arena, Charlie will need to dig deeper to carve out his own success in the competitive world of golf.

On the other hand, Kai Trump‘s struggles at the tournament were even more profound.

Competing in the girls’ division, Trump endured a dreadful outing, finishing in last place with a 35-over score across the tournament. Her final round score of 83 was filled with eight bogeys and two double bogeys, resulting in a frustrating experience for the young golfer.

While Kai Trump has already committed to playing college golf at the University of Miami, her performance at Sage Valley suggests she has significant adjustments to make before taking on the collegiate level. Her frustration seems to be more about the dreadful quality of her play rather than simply losing the tournament.

Pressure to Improve

Both Charlie Woods and Kai Trump will need to reflect on their disappointing showings and figure out how to improve moving forward.

For Charlie, the challenge is living up to the Woods legacy, a daunting task that requires intense focus and dedication. For Kai, it’s about finding consistency in her game as she transitions to college golf.

In the days following the tournament, it is likely that Charlie Woods will lean on the guidance of his father, Tiger Woods, while Kai Trump will turn to her mother, Vanessa Trump, for support.

The lessons learned from this tournament could either break their spirits or propel them towards a stronger future.
