CeeDee Lamb’s Week 1 setback fuels his drive for redemption against Giants

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb experienced a mix of highs and lows in Week 1.

Quarterback Dak Prescott targeted Lamb on an impressive 39.4% of his passes, 13 of 34 attempts, highlighting Lamb as the primary offensive weapon for Dallas against the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Lamb responded with seven catches totaling 110 yards, showing why he’s a key piece in the Cowboys’ offense.

However, despite the big numbers, Lamb’s day was overshadowed by four drops, a career-high and the most in an NFL game since 2021. Two of those costly drops came in the closing moments, during crucial situations that could have turned a narrow 24-20 loss into a victory.

The frustration weighed heavily on Lamb, keeping him awake all weekend. “I didn’t get any rest, really that whole weekend,” Lamb shared. His competitive spirit and love for the game make it impossible for him to accept such a performance lightly.

But instead of letting the disappointment hold him back, Lamb is using it as fuel. “I’d rather nobody else than myself in those moments. I came up short once, but I know I’ll be ready next time,” he said confidently.

Lamb’s work ethic shines as he prepares for redemption

Lamb’s determination became evident immediately after the game. Despite arriving back in Dallas early in the morning, he showed up at the team facility the next day to put in extra work, something head coach Brian Schottenheimer publicly praised.

Schottenheimer even shared that before the game, he showed Lamb his playcall sheet, where Lamb was the top target, clearly signaling how much the team trusts him. “It’s very evident these two guys [Lamb and Michael Gallup] are elite players,” the coach said, highlighting the strong relationship between the two receivers.

Prescott, Lamb’s quarterback and teammate, also emphasized Lamb’s professionalism and willingness to take accountability. “He took responsibility right away and came in the next day putting in work on the jugs machine,” Prescott said.

He reassured Lamb that the drops wouldn’t change his trust or how often he looks to get him the ball. “I’m not going to stop throwing you the ball,” Prescott insisted, reinforcing their bond.

Adding an extra layer of motivation for Sunday’s matchup is a personal edge. Last season, Lamb injured his shoulder on a tackle by New York Giants nickelback Dru Phillips, which affected his play throughout the year. “He tackled me and hurt me,” Lamb said bluntly. “So I got something for him.”

Between making amends for last week’s missed opportunities and settling the score with a divisional rival, Lamb is ready to prove why he’s a vital part of Dallas’ offense. His strong work ethic and mindset show he’s prepared to bounce back and shine in Week 2 against the Giants.
