CeeDee Lamb suffers injury that sets off alarm bells within the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys had a turbulent start in their Week 3 clash with the Chicago Bears, but perhaps the most alarming development came early in the game when star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb suffered a potential ankle injury.

In a baffling play call during the Cowboys’ second offensive drive, head coach Brian Schottenheimer handed the ball off to Lamb on a designed run.

The result? A one-yard loss and a collective gasp from Cowboys fans as Lamb went down awkwardly and limped off the field.

Before that moment, Dallas had already made several costly errors. Running back Javonte Williams lost the ball after a promising 22-yard gain, which the Bears quickly capitalized on. Chicago wideout Rome Odunze then burned cornerback Trevon Diggs for a 35-yard touchdown strike, giving the Bears a 7-0 lead early in the game.

Ankle trouble for Dallas’ top target

The attempted handoff to Lamb was questionable to begin with, as Lamb is one of the league’s top receiving threats, not a running back. As he tried to maneuver through the defensive line, Chicago linebacker Noah Sewell brought him down, landing directly on Lamb’s left ankle in the process. Lamb immediately showed signs of pain, hobbling to the sideline before heading into the medical tent.

Trainers quickly taped up his ankle, and Lamb tried to re-enter the game shortly after. However, his return lasted just one snap. After lining up and attempting to run a route, he was clearly still affected by the injury and limped off the field once again.

The Cowboys later listed him as “out,” and while no official word on the severity has been released, early signs point to a potentially lingering issue. For now, Lamb’s streak of four consecutive 100-yard receiving games is in jeopardy.

The injury could not come at a worse time for Dallas. Lamb had already recorded 16 catches for 222 yards across the first two games of the season and was expected to be a central figure in their offensive attack against the Bears. With his availability in doubt, the Cowboys may need to rely more heavily on George Pickens, tight end Jake Ferguson, and their depth receivers to keep their offense afloat.

Meanwhile, the Bears’ defense appears energized, sensing an opportunity to capitalize on a Cowboys squad without its top playmaker. Dallas still managed to put points on the board via a 53-yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey, but the bigger concern remains Lamb’s health.

Fans and team officials alike will be watching closely for updates, as his status could significantly influence the Cowboys’ trajectory in the coming weeks.
