CeeDee Lamb sets the tone as Cowboys debut dangerous new WR duo with George Pickens

The Dallas Cowboys have made a bold statement heading into the 2025 NFL season.

By acquiring George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers, they’ve given franchise quarterback Dak Prescott another elite weapon and created what could be the league’s most explosive wide receiver tandem alongside CeeDee Lamb.

Ever since the trade, speculation has swirled around who would emerge as Prescott‘s primary target. But Lamb, already a multiple-time Pro Bowler and the undisputed top receiver in Dallas for the past four seasons, had a clear and confident message about how things will work moving forward.

Speaking at Kyler Murray’s inaugural celebrity softball game, Lamb addressed the rumors of a possible rivalry or WR1 debate with Pickens. His response shut down that conversation quickly.

“Oh, no, we’re both ones,” Lamb said with conviction. “It ain’t no A, B, none of that. It’s one. You look over there, you see one. You look over here, you see another one. So do what you gotta do with that.”

Pickens, standing beside him, backed it up with a simple “yeah,” showing early signs of chemistry between the two.

A much-needed spark in the Cowboys’ passing game

Over the last few seasons, Lamb has been the Cowboys’ lone consistent receiving threat.

While he’s racked up over 1,000 yards in four straight campaigns and scored 38 touchdowns since his 2020 debut, Dallas has struggled to find a true No. 2 receiver. The arrival of Pickens, just 24 and coming off a career-best season, changes that in a big way.

Pickens brings elite deep-threat ability, averaging a league-leading 18.1 yards per reception in 2023 with 1,140 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Despite instability at quarterback in Pittsburgh, he consistently delivered splash plays, and now enters a more stable offensive setup under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Defensive leader Micah Parsons clearly approves of the pairing, joking on social media: “Ceedee done found a new best friend.”

The Cowboys’ offense is also undergoing a transition. With Tony Pollard gone and a new backfield duo of Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, Schottenheimer is expected to balance the passing game with a more consistent ground attack.

That, combined with Pickens drawing coverage away from Lamb, could make Dallas’ offense more unpredictable and efficient.

Fantasy football fans may need to temper expectations for Lamb‘s overall target volume, but that’s good news for Prescott, who no longer needs to force the ball to one receiver. It’s also a sign of growth and maturity from Lamb, who has welcomed the addition of another star instead of viewing it as a threat.

The message is clear: the Cowboys aren’t just giving Dak more weapons-they’re building one of the most feared receiving duos in the NFL.
