CeeDee Lamb Announces Major Change Before New Cowboys Season After George Pickens Trade

The 2024 NFL season was a disaster for the Dallas Cowboys. The storied franchise faltered under pressure, and the results reflected a team drained of momentum and vision. The relationship between head coach Mike McCarthy, his players, and an increasingly restless fan base appeared strained beyond repair-culminating in his departure. While McCarthy’s exit had been anticipated for some time, the full unraveling became undeniable this past season.

Although the blame did not fall solely on McCarthy, a significant share of responsibility was directed his way. In the wake of the team’s collapse, some of the Cowboys‘ star players have begun to express a sense of ownership and regret-none more notably than wide receiver Ceedee Lamb, who seems to have fully grasped the magnitude of what went wrong.

CeeDee Lamb, Regret and Reflection

Lamb’s 2024 season began in turmoil. He skipped both training camp in California and the mandatory minicamp in an effort to pressure the organization into renegotiating his contract. While common in the business of football, his absence disrupted the team’s cohesion, particularly his timing and rhythm with quarterback Dak Prescott.

“Honestly, it was the worst,” Lamb admitted. “It was the worst ever. Do you hear me? For those who know me, they know how serious I take this football stuff.“

Despite impressive individual numbers-over 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past four seasons, 500 receptions, and 38 touchdowns-Lamb’s contributions were not enough to elevate a team that stumbled to a 7-10 finish in 2024. The lack of preseason reps with Prescott was a notable factor in a sputtering offensive unit that lacked both power and fluidity.

CeeDee Lamb: Recalibrated and Ready

After signing a monumental $136 million contract extension, including $100 million guaranteed, Lamb now says he’s committed to turning the page. The tone in his recent statements marks a clear shift in mindset.

“I don’t have it figured out just yet, but I can assure you I’ve learned,” he shared on Instagram. He added on his YouTube channel: “For me to miss out on the right preparation with my team, my quarterback, my guys… it was a unique situation. And I’m praying it’s the last.

A Crucial Test to Cowboys to Start 2025

The Cowboys’ 2025 season opener will be a trial by fire: a Thursday night showdown against the reigning NFL champions and bitter rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, on September 4 at Lincoln Financial Field.

It’s a high-stakes contest that will not only test the mettle of the retooled Cowboys roster, but also set the tone for Lamb’s redemptive journey, and Dallas’ ambitions to return to postseason relevance.

The road ahead is far from easy. But if Lamb’s words-and now his actions-hold true, the Cowboys may just find themselves back in contention.
