Carlos Rodon undergoes surgery: How long will the Yankees pitcher be out?

Carlos Rodon, one of the main arms of the New York Yankees rotation in the 2025 MLB season, underwent arthroscopic surgery this week to treat discomfort in his left elbow. The medical procedure was performed in Los Angeles by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who cleaned up the loose bodies and removed a bone spur.

Although it was a minor procedure, manager Aaron Boone anticipated during his end-of-season press conference at Yankee Stadium that it will affect his preparation for the start of the next campaign:

The surgery went well, but this will probably set him back a couple of weeks to start the year

How long will Carlos Rodon be out? Boone details recovery plan

The Yankees’ medical staff has established a protocol for Carlos Rodon’s rehabilitation process. According to Boone, Rodon will have a period of approximately eight weeks without pitching, which will keep him out of action until mid-to-late December.

Boone began by explaining about Carlos Rodon’s surgical procedure:

Carlos had a procedure on his shoulder to remove loose bodies and, I’m told, also had some work done on the back of the elbow

To later explain a little about how they are going to approach this operation and what the rehabilitation plan is for the pitcher:

He will have eight weeks of rest without throwing, and then he will begin his throwing program. If all goes according to plan, he will be ready to return a few weeks after the start of the season

Carlos Rodon and his great year with the Yankees that ends on a bitter note

This surgery comes after Carlos Rodon’s best campaign since arriving in New York, where he had a solid performance with a record of 18-9, 3.09 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 203 strikeouts in 33 starts, as well as being selected to the All-Star Game, his first with the Yankees.

The sad thing about his campaign was the end when he had a bad outing on the mound in Game 3 of the Division Series against the Blue Jays, being punished with six runs in just two and a third innings. The Yankees ended up winning that game, but he had no more opportunities because they were eliminated the next day.
