Carlos Mendoza receives tough news about one of the Mets’ new signings

The New York Mets‘ new signings have not had the best start to the 2026 MLB season, at least not what was expected both inside the franchise and among their fans.

Now, an adverse situation has arisen with Jorge Polanco, who had begun the season at first base – a new position for him. The new New York Mets player is starting the series against the St. Louis Cardinals as the designated hitter (DH), something that raises alarms.

What did Carlos Mendoza say about Jorge Polanco?

“His Achilles tendon kind of flared up after the second game. That’s why he DH’ed yesterday,” Mendoza said, per an X post from SNY.

He then added, “We’re not concerned, [proven by that] he’s playing. But I kind of want to limit his exposure on the field. So we’ve just got to treat it here, and just be careful with him, especially this early.”

Appearing as the designated hitter suggests the injury is not serious. However, it is very early in the MLB season to be dealing with injuries, especially when it involves an Achilles issue.

One of the biggest challenges for the New York Mets organization is to avoid injuries, particularly to the key players brought in to strengthen the roster and compete. While it is true that Jorge Polanco has not been impactful in the first few series, it is never ideal to disrupt a player’s rhythm under any circumstances.
