The New York Mets had a dreadful start to August, but good news has been emerging for the organization, keeping them in the fight for a postseason spot, with even a chance to challenge the Philadelphia Phillies‘ lead in the National League East.

However, it’s not all rosy. Carlos Mendoza‘s team lost three out of four games in their series against the Miami Marlins, right after sweeping the Phillies at Citi Field.

Can they catch the Phillies?

Currently, they are 6.5 games behind the National League East lead. This gap is not impossible to close. The New York Mets still have a series pending against Philadelphia, and it’s worth noting that the Phillies are without their ace, Zack Wheeler, for the remainder of the season.
