Carlos Mendoza gives good news amid the crisis facing the Mets

The New York Mets are going through a critical stage in the season. With a three-game losing streak and a 3-7 record in their last 10 games, the team has lost ground in the National League East, relinquishing the lead to the Philadelphia Phillies. However, amid this bleak outlook, manager Carlos Mendoza offered an encouraging sign for the near future.

Star pitcher Kodai Senga, who has been instrumental when fit, is making progress in his recovery process. Although he has been out since June 12 with a hamstring injury, Mendoza confirmed that the Japanese has already faced hitters in a live session and is preparing to throw from the bullpen, a key stage in his rehabilitation.

Kodai Senga speeds up recovery and is close to returning as a starter for the Mets in MLB

The manager’s update sparked optimism among the fans. “Senga faced hitters on Sunday. It was a live batting practice with some ups and downs, but it’s part of the process. He has a bullpen scheduled for tomorrow and a new practice session. Then we’ll evaluate how his body responds,” Mendoza told SNY.

The absence of Senga has been felt. With a brilliant 1.47 ERA in his 13 starts in 2025, the 32-year-old right-hander has not allowed more than three earned runs in any game this season. His eventual return could be the boost needed to reverse the team’s poor form, especially in a rotation that has had to contend with injuries and inconsistency.

Could Kodai Senga be the X-factor for the Mets to get back on track in the National League?

The Japanese was already one of the team’s revelations in 2023, finishing his rookie campaign with a 12-7 record and a 2.98 ERA. In 2024, injuries severely limited his participation, but when he is at his best, he is one of the most dominant arms in the league. His return would not only be a technical improvement, but also an emotional one for a locker room that needs confidence.

Meanwhile, the Mets will have a busy day, with a doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers due to Tuesday’s game being suspended due to inclement weather. The need for fresh arms and consistency from the mound could not be more urgent. In this context, Senga’s figure becomes even more valuable.

Carlos Mendoza knows that the pressure on his team increases with each loss, but he stands firm in his belief that the Mets can turn things around. And in the midst of the despondency, Kodai Senga’s positive evolution represents much more than just a medical update: it is a symbol of hope.
