Carlos Correa shares near-death experience with his son on a Minnesota lake: “God, save me”

Last summer, Carlos Correa and his son fought for their lives in a Minnesota lake. Due to cramps and body weakness from exertion, they nearly drowned.

The Houston shortstop was not wearing a life jacket, so he had to rely on strength to survive. He clung to a buoy, his only option to stay afloat and save both of their lives. His three-year-old son, Kylo, was wearing a life jacket, but clung to his father’s shoulders, which put pressure on the baseball player in his attempt to float.

Desperate, he began to pray. He asked for God’s help and promised to spread his message of salvation if he would heed his request. His prayers were heard. After living to tell the tale, the Astros player is dedicated to spreading the message, as he says.

Lord, save me. I promise you that if you save me from this, I will serve you and I will serve you forever. It was like: ‘From that moment on, I’m going to serve you. I’m going to keep my promise’. And since then, I’ve been completely devoted.

The Church of the Correa House

He has always been a man of religious convictions, but not as much of a believer as he is now. The incident prompted him to strengthen his faith. His house is known as the Correa House Church for the meetings he organizes to read and study the Bible. The attendees, ranging from 10 to 60 people, review the Scriptures and discuss them. They also talk about current issues and their relationship with God. Recently, during the winter market, he organized a session with teammates and friends who are religious like him.

Focused on the 2026 season with the Astros

Prior to the start of the campaign, Correa is adjusting to the decisions of the coaching staff. Accustomed to playing shortstop, he will now have to alternate as a third baseman and play both positions when required. He is preparing physically and mentally for this, because each position demands a specific requirement.

For as long as they need me, I’ll be there for the team and wherever they need me. For me, it’s more about that. I have the plan to be third baseman, but plans change. So now I have to play a little bit as a shortstop to start the season
