Carlos Alcaraz debuts an extreme makeover at the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz made an unforgettable entrance at the 2025 US Open – and it had nothing to do with his tennis ability.

Only days ago, the world No. 2 had been playing in the mixed doubles event with his trademark bushy dark hairstyle. But ahead of his first-round tie in the singles, Alcaraz showcased a huge hair transformation.

The Spaniard unveiled a sharp fade cut with a meticulously trimmed top and a shaved beard, signaling a bold style moment as he arrived in New York. Reflecting on the change, Alcaraz explained that he flew his personal barber, Victor Martinez, to Paris mid-French Open to freshen his “disheveled” look.

“I had to do something about it,” he said, adding, “it’s something normal.” This mirrors his habit of using bold looks as personal resets-he did something similar with a buzz cut during last year’s sweltering Australian Open.

A look that matches his confidence

Alcaraz’s haircut isn’t just about aesthetics-it’s emblematic of his mindset. He’s embracing flair, showing that style and substance can go hand in hand.

Social media reactions have ranged from amused to impressed, underscoring how his off-court personality has become part of his public image. Others mourned the loss of his impressive locks.

As the US Open kicks off, Alcaraz is ready to clear his head – literally – as he focuses on the job at hand.

Aiming for a second New York title and a return to world No. 1 are his objectives, with Jannik Sinner holding the top spot after winning three of the last four hard-court majors, the stage is set for a high-stakes showdown between two of tennis’s brightest lights.

Alcaraz stated candidly at a pre-tournament press conference, “Hopefully we’ll meet in the final,” underlining the intense rivalry. “If I beat him, even better… He has a big target on his back right now.”

Alcaraz’s preparation for the tournament

Despite the bold haircut grabbing headlines, Alcaraz’s focus remains squarely on a strong showing in the singles draw.

He begins his US Open campaign against big-serving American Reilly Opelka-a test of both serve and nerves. Early success here will be vital in his bid to reclaim the No. 1 ranking.

Earlier in the summer, he lifted his eighth Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati, defeating Sinner in the final after the Italian withdrew due to illness. That result strengthened his claim for top billing entering New York and added a weight of expectation.

In mixed doubles, Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu drew attention more for their on-court chemistry than their early exit. Despite being eliminated in the first round, the duo-nicknamed “Raducaraz”-charmed fans with playful energy, clinching a fan following that transcended tennis.

It’s clear Alcaraz is entering the 2025 US Open with style, confidence, and momentum. His makeover may raise eyebrows-but it’s his concrete results and competitive fire that will define his tournament. If he can match his look with performances on the Arthur Ashe Stadium courts, the world will watch-and remember.
