Carlos Alcaraz beats Jannick Sinner in the best tennis match of this year

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner to claim his fifth Grand Slam title and his second consecutive Roland Garros victory! This thrilling final marked the 12th meeting between these two young superstars – widely seen as the future of men’s tennis. Significantly, Sinner hasn’t managed to beat Carlitos since 2023.

With this win, Alcaraz joined an elite group. He became only the eighth man in the Open Era (since 1968) – and just the third this century – to successfully defend his Roland Garros title. This remarkable achievement also maintains his perfect record in Grand Slam finals: he has won every one he has played.

The match featured heart-stopping drama. Alcaraz faced defeat when he was down 3-5 and 0-40 on his own serve in the fourth set – staring at three championship points. Incredibly, he saved all three, broke Sinner’s serve to level at 5-5, and later forced a decisive tie-break. This resilience is typical; Alcaraz boasts a now impressive 13-1 career record in matches that go to five sets.

Matches between these two are pure sporting cinema. They have earned immense respect from fans worldwide for their incredible shot-making and unwavering sportsmanship. As seen repeatedly at Roland Garros and other clay events, they often play points of astonishing quality and length, and both fairly concede points when the opponent’s shot is clearly good.

The final pushed both players to their physical limits. Notably, Sinner has never won a professional match lasting longer than 3 hours and 50 minutes (he now holds an 0-7 record in such marathons). This epic encounter shattered that barrier, with the fourth set alone pushing the total playing time well past four hours. This is the longest match in Roland Garros history with: 5 hours 29 minutes.

Dominating the Tour

Since January 2024, Alcaraz and Sinner have utterly dominated men’s tennis, winning every single Grand Slam title: Sinner took the Australian Open 2024, Alcaraz won Roland Garros 2024 and Wimbledon 2024, Sinner captured the US Open 2024, and then the Australian Open 2025. While this latest French Open belonged to “Carlitos,” it underscores their incredible joint stranglehold on the sport’s biggest prizes.
