As the highly anticipated September 13 fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium approaches, the boxing world is divided in its predictions.
Although Canelo is the undisputed 168-pound champion, Crawford will move up two weight classes to face him. To gain a unique perspective, Fight Hub TV asked fighters who have faced both, revealing that the fight is much more competitive than one might think.
Amir Khan’s warning
Amir Khan, who fought both boxers, acknowledged that Crawford is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. However, he warned that the weight difference and Canelo’s power make him an extremely dangerous opponent, even if the Mexican has shown a slight decline in his recent career.
On the other hand, Shawn Porter dismissed the size gap, arguing that Crawford’s intelligence, speed and adaptability will outweigh Canelo. Porter claimed that size is overrated and that Crawford has what it takes to win.
Similarly, Jeff Horn and Egidijus ‘Mean Machine’ Kavaliauskas also leaned towards Crawford, highlighting his ring intelligence, accuracy and ability to make opponents run into his punches.
For others there is no favorite
For his part, Israil Madrimov, Crawford’s most recent opponent, opined that the fight is a 50/50. Madrimov believes Crawford has the tools to win, but warned that excessive weight gain could be counterproductive.
In his opinion, if Crawford stays true to himself and does not overdo it with the weight gain, the fight will be a real challenge for both and above all, a spectacle for all boxing fans.
