Although many boxing fans were rubbing their hands together at the prospect of a possible fight between Canelo and Chris Eubank Jr, this idea can be forgotten. It doesn’t matter that it was the British boxer’s own entourage that had hinted at “conversations” to see both fighters in the ring.
Canelo Alvarez vs Chris Eubank Jr, a fight that remains in the imagination of boxing
That fans of both fighters imagined seeing Saul Alvarez and Eubank Jr. face each other has one person responsible: Ben Shalom, who is the promoter of the Briton, and who had claimed that there were “conversations” initiated to see his 35-year-old (34-3-0) client against the Mexican born in Guadalajara.
“We’ve already started some small conversations about the fight with Canelo,” Shalom told Sky in previous days; however, he has already found an answer from the Canelo Team.
Saul Alvarez’s camp denies negotiations for fight with Chris Eubank Jr
The person in charge of putting out the rumors and the fire of emotion was none other than Eddie Reynoso, who is the manager of the Mexican (62-2-2), because when he was questioned about what these “talks” were to see the fight, he totally denied that in September 2025 this fight could be seen.
It’s totally false. We’re not going to contact him again for a future fight! Everything I tell you is always true!
These fights were given by Dan Rafael of Fight Freaks Unite.
Shalom accuses Canelo’s team of poor communication
Ben Shalom was at a WBO convention in Puerto Rico when he heard Reynoso’s response. The promoter believes that the misunderstanding and mixed messages arose due to poor communication on the part of Canelo’s entourage.
What’s next for Eubank Jr after Canelo Team denial?
After seeing Eddie Reynoso’s words, Shalom spoke again and indicated that they will look for another fight and left an indirect criticism to Saul Alvarez and his entourage:
“I think it’s a communication thing on his part because we’ve talked and, like I said at the time, I saw how it all fell apart, like it always does with Canelo. We had little conversations and got back in touch, and that was it.”
Eubank Jr will face Conor Benn before thinking about September 2025 opponents.
