Canelo Alvarez: The astronomical contract he signed with Turki Al-Sheikh, how much is it worth?

Despite the disparaging remarks made by Oscar de la Hoya towards the Mexican champion, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, for signing a new contract with Turki Al-Sheikh, president of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, the decision is actually logical and represents a new financial achievement in the career of the fighter from Guadalajara, Mexico.

According to Mexican boxing analyst Carlos Aguilar, Canelo signed the most lucrative contract of his career on February 7, even though he has already earned a large amount of money.

Canelo Alvarez’s most lucrative contract

The agreement signed with Riyadh Season, which was initially said to be for four fights, will be for five, in exchange for $400 million, according to El Zar:

“It’s not going to be four, everything indicates that it’s going to be five fights and it’s going to be around 80 million dollars per fight for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Four in Arabia, one in the United States,” he told Mexican broadcaster MVS Deportes.

With this figure, Canelo would have completed one of the most lucrative contracts in boxing history, although he is still far from the $650 million that Floyd Mayweather Jr. earned for his exhibition fights against Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor, the current mark in boxing.

However, ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez estimated during the negotiations that the deal would be in excess of $400 million, although he did not reveal the final figure, as he explained that he only analyzed how the talks had taken place

What is a fact is that this new agreement with Canelo is superior to the $365 million he signed with DAZN in October 2018, which could not be completed because Canelo was unable to fight practically all of 2020 due to the pandemic and in the end he left the contract alleging breach of contract by the company

The first fight of this contract, signed between Canelo and Turki will take place on May 3 in Saudi Arabia; for the undisputed super middleweight title against William Scull.
