Canelo Alvarez takes home a good amount of money thanks to Oleksandr Usyk’s victory

Oleksandr Usyk’s victory over Daniel Dubois was historic for the Ukrainian, who became the undisputed heavyweight champion, but around this important fight there were also winners in terms of betting. In this area, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez benefited from the Ukrainian’s triumph after making a strong “financial investment” with Usyk’s victory over Dubois.

A few days ago, Canelo boasted that he bet half a million dollars on Oleksandr Usyk. His bet was only focused on the Ukrainian’s victory and did not have an additional line such as “type of victory”, “winning round” or any other type of bet that would allow him to win a large sum of money. However, with $500,000, the Mexican boxer had a “moderate” return on investment, for a person who has a nine-digit savings account.

How much money did Canelo Alvarez win by betting on Oleksandr Usyk?

It should be noted that the bet was placed through 1Win, where the betting line for the defending champion was low. Even so, with the Ukrainian’s victory, Canelo Alvarez pocketed $630,000, that is, 130,000 greenbacks more for his savings account. This profit is a “pinch” of the fortune that the Mexican boxer has and which will be increased thanks to the contract made for four to five fights with the sheikh and Arab boxing promoter Turki Alalshikh. At almost 35 years of age, Alvarez boasts a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two draws and a couple of defeats.

According to Sportico, Canelo Alvarez boasts a total of $730 million in earnings. Once the deal with Turki is completed, it is expected that he could exceed $1 billion, a figure that would make him the second boxer to exceed ten-digit figures, something that only Floyd Mayweather has achieved. Saul has had a successful career facing great fighters. This has led him to conquer up to four different categories and consolidate himself in the super middleweight division, where he has reigned since 2021

When is Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s next fight?

The Mexican champion’s next boxing date will be against American Terence Crawford, and at the moment it stands as one of the most significant fights in the Mexican champion’s career, as he will put his four super middleweight belts on the line at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, September 13, as part of Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations.

The Mexican will defend his World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles. This will be Alvarez’s chance to win back his fans after the poor performance he gave on May 3 when he defeated William Scull in a fight that was heavily criticized due to the small number of punches thrown.
