Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez gave a forceful message after the constant challenges of Jake Paul, the influencer and American pugilist. Canelo’s refusal to fight Paul unleashed a barrage of statements, both inside and outside the ring.

The story between Canelo and Jake Paul shows two valid but different visions of modern boxing. While Saul Alvarez maintains his line oriented to elite sport, Paul presents himself as the new media and challenging spark. For now, the fight will not take place, but the discussion is still ongoing.

Exhibition boxing vs. traditional boxing?

Since becoming a professional boxer, influencer Jake Paul has used the press and social media as strategies to stay in the public eye. His victory against Mike Tyson gave him the strength to proclaim himself as a boxing figure. However, many see his fights more as spectacles than as boxing tests.

On the other hand, Canelo Alvarez continues to target established opponents and real championships. After the planned fights in Saudi Arabia, his next fight will be against Terence Crawford in September in Las Vegas, a duel awaited by boxing fans

What did Saul Alvarez say about Jake Paul?

In a recent interview with Piers Morgan as part of the different press conferences for the September 13 fight against Terence Crawford, the Mexican was asked about the American influencer boxer, to which Canelo responded clearly and concisely.

He is very lucky, his life is safe now for now. When I get in the ring I’m not joking, but I wouldn’t call that a fight (facing Jake Paul), if it happens it would be something like an event, it’s different. He’s doing his thing well, but speaking of real fights, they’re different things, commented the Mexican boxer.
