Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford arrive at the big fight between undisputed champions, which takes place on Saturday, September 13, after a last performance in which neither of them convinced the fans. However, the fighters managed to win over William Scull and Israil Madrimov, respectively. They were two very different fights: Cuban Scull eluded danger in the fight in Saudi Arabia against the Mexican and this left us without a show; on the other hand, a great Madrimov prevented Bud from shining at the usual level, but this allowed for an infinitely more attractive fight.
Crawford made his super welterweight debut against the Uzbek and showed a spectacular physique. In the ring, perhaps for the first time, he felt the power of a rival who forced him to retreat at some point and not to let his guard down for a moment. That fight showed that the Omaha native will have a very difficult time knocking out Canelo. He moves up two divisions to face a super middleweight bout. The gap between the 70 kg super welterweight and the 76 kg super middleweight does not seem so great, although for the moment it seems that Bud has done his homework, judging by the images he has shown on social networks. In fact, he has left more than one person astonished. It is clearly noticeable that he is more voluminous.
The American’s trainer, Jacqui ‘Red’ Spikes, warned Saul Alvarez in an interview with Fighthype: “One thing’s for sure, Canelo is going to feel his power, he’s going to respect Bud Crawford. He’s not just going to be able to just walk in and do what he thinks. Bud is a very strong fighter, he’s a very good fighter and intelligence will be key. It’s a mental game.”
Smaller and more skilled people have beaten bigger fighters over the years. Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler. […] Usyk is smaller and has beaten bigger boxers with his boxing. Skill is key. It’s just about being prepared, having a good game plan and having the right opponent,” he said. However, ‘Red’ Spikes acknowledges: “What worries us about Canelo is not his size but that he is an intelligent fighter”. On paper, the super middleweight king is slightly favored, but Bud is no ordinary opponent.
