Can Yoshinobu Yamamoto save the Dodgers? The Japanese pitcher enters uncharted territory for modern baseball

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the ropes in the 2025 World Series. After losing Game 5 and falling behind 3-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays, the responsibility falls on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who will start Game 6 at Rogers Centre

The Japanese, the team’s star signing, faces a historic challenge: pitching on a stage where every pitch can define the future of the franchise.

A challenge for Yamamoto that transcends the conventional

Yamamoto arrives at this game with solid numbers in the postseason, but the pressure is on. The Japanese right-hander has been a key part of the rotation, showing control and velocity that ranks him among the best starters of the year. However, starting a Game 6 in the World Series, with the series against him and in hostile territory, puts him in uncharted territory for international pitchers.

The expectation is enormous: the Dodgers need Yamamoto to contain an offense led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, who have punished the Los Angeles pitching in recent games. Each inning will be a test of mental and physical endurance for the Japanese pitcher.

Dodgers’ strategy with Yamamoto and what’s at stake in the World Series

For Dave Roberts and his coaching staff, the gamble on Yamamoto is clear: trust his ability to stretch the game and avoid wearing down the bullpen. If he can keep the score close, Los Angeles will have a chance to force a seventh game and keep its championship hopes alive.

But the risk is obvious. If Yamamoto fails, the Dodgers will be eliminated and the multi-million dollar investment in his contract will be questioned. With a deal that made him one of the highest-paid pitchers in MLB, this moment could define his legacy in the league and the perception of the impact of international signings in high-pressure scenarios.

Game 6 is not just a sporting battle, but also a chapter that could change the narrative of modern baseball. Will Yamamoto be the hero that Los Angeles needs or will he go down as a failed gamble in World Series history?
