Can Tiger Woods come close to Jack Nicklaus’ Majors record? President Trump thinks so

Tiger Woods has got another major win in him as we head into 2025. With just two majors under his belt in the last 17 years, the 49-year-old golf icon has been sidelined by injuries more often than not lately. Sitting at 15 majors, Woods is three shy of Jack Nicklaus’ PGA Tour record of 18, and the question’s on everyone’s mind-can he still chase down that milestone before retiring?

The past few years have been tough for Woods, with health issues keeping him off the course and fueling debates about his staying power. But U.S. President Donald Trump, a big Woods supporter who awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom after his 2019 Masters victory, is betting on a comeback.

During Woods’ White House visit for Black History Month on Thursday, Trump dropped a confident prediction. “He’s got a long way to go, too,” he said. “I was with him a week ago, we played. I think he’s got some left, Adam (Scott) doesn’t he? Couple of Majors maybe. Maybe more than that.” That’s a hefty vote of faith-Trump’s envisioning a full-on career revival for Woods, with another major in sight.

Trump’s words got social media buzzing. One fan dreamed big, writing, “Imagine Tiger winning the Masters… it really would be the golden age.” Another upped the stakes, saying, “If Tiger were ever to win another major, I think it may be the greatest accomplishment in the history of sports.”

Fans react to Trump’s prediction

Not everyone’s sold, though-a doubter countered, “Hot take, and I’m a huge Tiger fan. He won’t ever finish another major again.” Others see a spark but challenges, with one commenting, “It would be amazing if Tiger got a major this year. Golf is always better when he’s in contention. The young competition is tough, and he’ll have to overcome a lot.“

Woods’ legacy is unreal-his 15 majors rank him among golf’s all-time trio with Nicklaus (18) and Walter Hagen (11). Active PGA stars like Phil Mickelson (six) and Brooks Koepka (five) lag behind and play for LIV Golf instead. The Masters, where Woods has clinched five wins-most recently in 2019-remains his forte. Trump also teased recent chats with Woods, PGA boss Jay Monahan, Adam Scott, and Saudi PIF’s Yasir Al-Rumayyan about a PGA-LIV merger.
