Can the Dodgers afford another multi-million dollar move? At this point everyone believes they have their eyes set on one particular player

As the 2025 MLB trade deadline approaches, speculation is mounting regarding Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette’s future. With free agency looming at the end of the season, the Blue Jays may opt to trade him rather than risk losing him without compensation. One team that has surfaced as a potential landing spot is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who could use Bichette’s presence to bolster their infield while addressing lingering outfield issues.

A trade to Los Angeles could have significant ripple effects. If Bichette joins the Dodgers, Mookie Betts could return to the outfield, helping to stabilize a position where Andy Pages and Michael Conforto have struggled. However, free agency presents another scenario entirely. According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, Bichette might be willing to transition to third base if it increases his chances of landing a lucrative deal with teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, or Tigers.

Bichette has been one of baseball’s more consistent hitters in recent years. From 2021 to 2023, he recorded at least 20 home runs annually while leading the American League in hits twice. However, injuries slowed him in 2024, and while his performance has improved this season-hitting .286 with four home runs-he has yet to fully return to his previous offensive form. If Bichette can find his rhythm again, he could be in line for a significant payday, possibly comparable to the six-year, $171 million contract Alex Bregman received from the Tigers last offseason.

He could very much help them

Despite a dip in power numbers, Bichette remains a valuable asset. His ability to consistently make contact and produce hits makes him an attractive target, especially for a team like the Dodgers, which has historically been willing to invest heavily in free-agent talent. At just 27 years old, Bichette still has time to regain his peak form, and a change of scenery might help him rediscover his full offensive potential.

Toronto’s decision regarding Bichette will likely depend on its position in the playoff race as the deadline nears. If the Blue Jays remain competitive, they may choose to keep him for a postseason push, hoping he can be a key factor in their championship aspirations. On the other hand, if they fall out of contention, trading Bichette for valuable prospects could be the more practical option.

Regardless of whether Bichette is dealt midseason or tests free agency, his future will be closely watched across the league. His willingness to adapt, whether by switching positions or refining his game, could be the deciding factor in his next contract. One thing is certain-several teams, including the Dodgers, will be paying close attention to what happens next.
