Can Shedeur Sanders go back to college? Potential steps for Coach Prime’s son amid NFL Draft disaster

Eligibility rules mean Shedeur Sanders will not be allowed back to college football after declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, meaning it’s the pros or nothing for the ex-Colorado Buffaloes quarterback.

The 22-year-old is experiencing a horror show in Green Bay as he continues to plummet down in the estimations of 32 organizations at the very top of the sport, being snubbed in not only the First Round, but also the Second and Third Rounds too.

Once tipped as an overall first pick candidate, Sanders will now be the sixth-highest quarterback in his class at best when the next round resumes on Saturday, April 26 – a shocking fall from grace.

Perceived weaknesses in his game such as time holding onto the ball and a lack of long-range throwing ability, as well as his celebrity-like status away from the field and the role of his father, Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders have left NFL executives concerned.

So, in a bid to step back and work on his game and his draft strategy, could he return to the Buffaloes side that he produced 4134 passing yards and 37 touchdowns for? The answer is no.

NCAA rules require all competitors in college football be classified as ‘amateurs’, and upon declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders lost that categorization. He did have 72 hours to change his mind, but evidently elected not to.

“Student-athletes who enter the NFL Draft early,” Chris Howard, NCAA Director of Enforcement, said. “Are required to sign and have notarized a petition for special eligibility with the NFL.

“Which renounces all remaining collegiate eligibility unless revoked within 72 hours of the draft declaration date.”

Who could pick Shedeur Sanders?

Sanders is currently embarking on one of the most shocking NFL Draft falls in the history of the sport. Seldom does a forecast first-rounder drop this far down in the pecking order.

Every NFL team has now looked over the youngster at least four times, including those desperate for quarterbacks such as the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants and Cleveland Browns.

Reports have linked him to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where it is believed Mike Tomlin would be able to handle the personalities of both Shedeur and Deion at the Acrisure Stadium, but nothing has materialized yet.
