Cameron Brink reveals the unconventional “mingling” email that led to her Paris engagement

Cameron Brink‘s journey from a Stanford University dormitory to a high-profile engagement at the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris is a modern romance with a surprisingly formal twist.

While the Los Angeles Sparks forward is currently finding her rhythm again on the court with the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league, she recently took a moment to look back at the beginning of her relationship with fiancé Ben Felter.

In a viral social media reveal this February, Brink shared that their love story didn’t start with a “creepy” Instagram DM, but rather with a meticulously composed email.

The digital artifact, which Brink shared on TikTok to the tune of Faye Webster‘s “Suite: Jonny,” featured a subject line that has now become a fan-favorite catchphrase: “Attempting to Mingle.”

In the message, Felter, then a computer science major and standout on the Stanford rowing team, took a leap of faith to bypass the noise of social media.

“Hey Cameron, Wanted to chat you up but I think dms are a bit creepy. Not that email is much better, so here is my number-Ben,” the email read.

Brink playfully captioned the reveal, “this wasn’t supposed to be a love song… but I guess it is now,” confirming that the unconventional approach was exactly what she needed to see.

From Stanford sweethearts to a 2026 Palo Alto wedding

The couple’s connection was more than just a lucky digital strike; Brink later clarified in her comments that they had been matched through an internal athlete dating survey at the university.

Since that initial “mingling” attempt on March 10, 2021, the pair has navigated the highs of national championships and the lows of professional setbacks.

When Brink suffered a season-ending torn ACL in June 2024, Felter became her primary anchor during the grueling nine-month recovery process.

As Brink reasserts herself as one of the WNBA‘s premier defensive forces in 2026, her personal life is moving toward its own major milestone.

Following Felter‘s surprise proposal during Paris Fashion Week in September 2024, a moment Brink described as a “complete surprise” given Felter told her he had to stay in California for work, the couple has officially set a date for their nuptials.

They are scheduled to tie the knot on November 14, 2026, in Palo Alto, returning to the roots of their Stanford beginning to celebrate their marriage.

From the dorms to Paris and now back to Palo Alto, the journey of Cameron Brink and Ben Felter is a testament to patience, commitment, and the occasional charm of an old-fashioned email in the digital age.
