TheNFL preseason is about to begin, and every team is working to deliver strong performances in the preparation games. However, the Tennessee Titans, who are aiming for a return to the playoffs, have been dealt a major blow: their starting quarterback, Will Levis, will miss the entire 2025 season due to a shoulder injury.

This has a direct impact on the first overall pick of the NFL Draft,Cam Ward, who is now expected to lead the team in the upcoming season and prove he’s truly built for the NFL stage. All eyes will be on Ward as he steps into the spotlight earlier than anticipated, carrying the pressure of turning the Titans’ hopes into results.

One of the two most talked-about quarterback picks of the draft, Cam Ward, will get his chance with the first team, while Shedeur Sanders from the Cleveland Browns, will have to wait for his opportunity to showcase his talent on the field. Ward’s early opportunity comes as a result of Will Levis’ season-ending shoulder injury.

Levis’ injury opens door for Cam Ward to start

The news hit hard when ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced on an early morning show that Will Levis will miss the entire 2025 season due to surgery. What began as a lingering injury from last year has now developed into a serious fracture in his right shoulder, forcing the Titans to adjust their plans just weeks before the season begins.

With Levis sidelined, all eyes now turn to Cam Ward, the sensational first overall pick known for his dynamic dual-threat style. Armed with a strong arm and exceptional mobility, Ward can extend plays and create offensive opportunities. This is his moment to step up and take command of the Tennessee Titans’ offense as the team’s new leader.

However, Ward will need to deliver standout performances, as veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle are also competing for the starting quarterback role. His first major test will come against the Denver Broncos, whose defense features the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, Patrick Surtain II, posing an early and formidable challenge for the rookie.

The starting expectation over Ward.

The point of round one between Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward goes to Ward, as the rookie will get the first opportunity to start. Even thought at the end of last season, signs pointed to this chance as Will Levis’ struggles were evident, and many expected the Titans to hand the reins to their top draft pick in Week 1.

Ward had an outstanding journey with the Miami Hurricanes, delivering exceptional numbers during the 2024 season. As the centerpiece of the offense, he led Miami to become the highest-scoring team in the nation, solidifying his reputation as one of college football’s most dynamic quarterbacks.

Nevertheless, Ward will need to stay confident as he begins his rookie campaign, knowing he still lacks the experience to be considered a sure bet. To earn his place and keep the Titans’ playoff hopes alive, he’ll have to showcase his full skill set and deliver a strong, consistent season from the start.
