As the 2025 NFL Draft inches closer, the buzz surrounding the quarterback class is growing by the day. Sitting at the heart of the conversation are two standout prospects – Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward – whose talent, personalities, and competitive banter have ignited one of the most talked-about QB rivalries in recent draft history.
Sanders, the headline-grabbing Colorado QB and son of Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, has long been seen as a potential top pick.
But lately, Ward, the emerging star from the Miami Hurricanes, has surged in mock drafts thanks to a standout Pro Day and an increasingly favorable scouting report. While their on-field skills are under constant scrutiny, it’s their off-field rivalry and charisma that’s drawing equal attention.
The friendly competition took a public turn when Ward confidently referred to himself as a “generational talent,” prompting Sanders to deliver a pointed and viral comeback: “You’re generational. I’m legendary.”

Ward’s stock surges after Pro Day, Shedeur faces scrutiny
Ward’s recent Pro Day performance was a turning point in his draft narrative. Over a 45-minute session, he put on an absolute clinic-throwing crisp slants, deep balls, sideline lasers, and executing a memorable trick play in which he caught a touchdown pass from wide receiver Xavier Restrepo.
His fluid arm mechanics, poise, and athleticism captured the attention of several NFL teams in attendance, including the New York Giants.
Giants beat reporter Paul Schwartz posted a clip of Ward’s post-workout comments on March 24.
“I have seen a couple of them, ‘hopefuls.’ It was a good crowd, for sure,” Ward said referring to NFL scouts present.
Ward‘s rise coincides with some concerns around Sanders.
“Shedeur Sanders is reportedly being placed behind Cam Ward on several team’s boards now due to ‘off-the-field/attitude’ concerns,” a report from NFL Rookie Watch claimed.
Despite the noise, Shedeur has remained composed, opting not to comment on specific teams. But his father, Deion Sanders, made his preference clear during a speech at ProMat 2025.
When asked where he’d like his son to be drafted, Coach Prime confidently responded, “We are hoping for New York.” Although it’s unclear whether he meant the Jets or Giants, the latter makes the most sense-holding the No. 3 pick and facing uncertainty at the quarterback position.
