Cam Skattebo turned heads at training camp and over the weekend. His first training sessions with equipment showcased what kind of running back he can be, but his performance will largely depend on the development of the offensive line. Skattebo won’t be able to excel if the O-line doesn’t support him, especially since they don’t even rank in the top 16 of the NFL according to PFF.
Skattebo previously played for Sacramento State Hornets and Arizona State Sun Devils. According to various insiders, Coach Brian Daboll has seen enough potential in Cam to consider him a strong contender for the RB1 position, though he will share playing time with second-year player Tyron Tracy.
Recently, Skattebo made an impressive catch on the sidelines, showing remarkable awareness to score a touchdown-demonstrating his natural instinct. Daboll has also praised Skattebo for his understanding of the game and his situational awareness. It’s tough to bring him down; he forced 110 missed tackles during the 2024 NCAA campaign, accumulating over 2,300 total yards and 500 receiving yards.
Cam Skattebo on what he brings to an NFL team:
“I’m physical. People don’t think I’m as fast as I am, but I am fast. I punish the defenders because they don’t want to deal with that for four quarters. My objective at the end of the day is to get to the end zone.”
The duo of Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo could be incredible to watch and develop. Both rookies are talented and will surely compete for the starting job. I believe that under Brian Daboll, the Giants are in a good position, although questions remain about Vice President and GM Joe Schoen.
Schoen was the one who traded Saquon Barkley to Philadelphia last season, effectively giving them a Super Bowl ring, and he also passed on Shedeur Sanders, a projected top-three talent. However, I will admit that I liked their draft class.
They even trade-up to get Dart; after they selected with pick number 3 EDGE Abdul Carter, then in pick 22 they drafted QB Jaxson Dart. With pick 65 DT Darius Alexander, pick 99 RB Cam Skattebo, pick 178 OG Marcus Mbow, pick 227 TE Thomas Fideone lll, and with pick 254 CB Korie Black.
