Cam Skattebo hits Patrick Mahomes with his Super Bowl prediction and bets on a surprise team

When most NFL players pick Super Bowl favorites, they tend to back familiar powers or avoid betting against their own conference.

But Cam Skattebo, the New York Giants running back, broke that mold in a big way. In an appearance on streamer N3on‘s (also known as Neon) show, Skattebo shared his picks for Super Bowl LX, and delivered a prediction that surprised everyone.

According to EssentiallySports, the rookie went all-in on an AFC team that isn’t Patrick Mahomes‘s Kansas City Chiefs.

Skattebo didn’t hedge his bets. When asked about his top teams, he named three that stood out: “Sadly, I hate to say it, the Eagles, the Broncos, (and) the Rams are really good. There’s a group of teams, probably six or seven teams, that have a real chance,” he explained.

Why Skattebo is backing the Broncos to go all the way

What makes Skattebo’s prediction especially compelling is his personal connection to one of his picks: the Denver Broncos.

He recalled a wild Week 7 game when the Broncos mounted a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Giants.

“The Broncos is good,” Skattebo admitted when Neon pressed him on which of those three teams he’d bet his life savings on. The pain of that loss was real for him: “I want to say the Giants gonna win, but the Broncos are really good. Beat us,” he confessed, his disappointment still fresh months later.

Skattebo‘s reasoning is grounded in respect: he believes Denver has learned to win tight games. The Broncos have won several contests this season by slim margins, proving over and over that they’re clutch when it matters. In 2025, that kind of toughness is exactly what separates contenders.

He pointed to Denver’s ability to stay composed under pressure and make game-defining plays in tense moments. For example, the Broncos forced Patrick Mahomes into bad throws and generated red-zone takeaways.

In another nail-biter against the Chiefs, kicker Wil Lutz kicked a walk-off field goal in the final seconds, a dramatic finish that underlined Denver’s resilience.

Meanwhile, Skattebo didn’t ignore the NFC. He also praised the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams as serious Super Bowl contenders.

He singled out the Eagles’ talent and recent dominance, noting their 8-2 record and historic win streak earlier this season.

He acknowledged issues in Philadelphia’s locker room, too, particularly wide receiver A.J. Brown‘s outspoken social media presence, but said the team continues to push forward under head coach Nick Sirianni.

As for the Rams, Skattebo highlighted their resurgence thanks to veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. Under Stafford’s leadership, Los Angeles has looked dangerous, ending long road streaks and staying competitive against every opponent.

Skattebo‘s Super Bowl prediction isn’t just about boldness, it’s personal. He’s betting on a team that gave him a hard-fought loss, but also one that’s clearly built to win under pressure.

Backing Denver over Mahomes’ Chiefs is unusual, especially for a young player from the NFC East, but his logic is rooted in respect, experience, and the belief in a team that’s battle-tested.

Whether his pick pays off remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: Cam Skattebo isn’t afraid to back his beliefs, even if it means calling out league powers and placing his chips on a surprise contender.
