For many years, there hadn’t been this much excitement around a New York Giants project. The last time was probably in 2022, when Brian Daboll arrived and led the team to the playoffs in his first season. However, everything quickly fell apart, and he was fired after Week 10 of last season. Daboll’s biggest legacy was the selection of Jaxson Dart in the most recent Draft.
The New York Giants selected Abdul Carter with the third overall pick, and when it seemed they wouldn’t make any more first-round moves, they traded the 25th overall pick with the Houston Texans to select Jaxson Dart, the Ole Miss quarterback who could be the move that changes the franchise’s direction. At the very least, in 2025 he already gave a glimpse of his potential to become an elite quarterback.
The Giants’ project looks promising, and not just because of Jaxson Dart. They also have Malik Nabers returning this season, Cam Skattebo coming back from a devastating injury, and on defense, Abdul Carter, who showed flashes of his talent late in the season, along with Brian Burns, who led the NFC in sacks.
Cam Skattebo will be hungry to return
VIn addition to Jaxson Dart’s positive flashes, the Giants found a gem in the fourth round of the last Draft with Cam Skattebo, who made an immediate impact. Through Week 8, the day he suffered a serious injury, the former Arizona State running back had 7 total touchdowns and 610 combined yards.
Skattebo’s performance was impressive, especially his chemistry with Jaxson Dart. Unfortunately, in Week 8 against the Eagles, he suffered a severe ankle injury that included a dislocation, a fractured fibula, and torn ligaments. The injury ended his rookie season and required emergency surgery.
Despite that, Skattebo is expected to return during OTAs and is eager to rejoin the franchise’s exciting new project: “I always told myself if I ever had a major injury, I was done playing… Then I got hurt and it was like, ‘Alright, I can’t play football for seven games and just never play again,'” the running back said.
This is a project that has energized Giants fans, and the cherry on top was the hiring of John Harbaugh as head coach, the 21st in franchise history. Harbaugh was the most sought-after head coach after being fired by the Baltimore Ravens, but he quickly chose to work with the Giants-and especially with Jaxson Dart.
