Cam Jurgens will make many Eagles fans forget about Jason Kelce

Just over a year ago, on March 4, 2024, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce announced his retirement from the NFL.

After 13 seasons, two Super Bowl appearances, a Vince Lombardi Trophy, and six All-Pro selections, he decided to end his professional career.

Now, Kelce is spending time with his family, alongside his wife Kylie Kelce and their four daughters: five-year-old Wyatt, four-year-old Elliotte, two-year-old Bennett, and three-month-old newborn Finnley Anne.

However, at the Eagles, the challenge of filling his shoes fell to Cam Jurgens. Selected by the team in the second round of the 2022 draft at 51st overall, the 25-year-old was mentored by Kelce and has proven himself worthy, receiving praise for his performance and adaptation to the position.

His play has not only helped anchor one of the best offensive lines in the league: he was also a key piece in the Eagles’ run to Super Bowl LIX and earned him a spot in the Pro Bowl.

Now, he has been recognized as a “player to root for” this season.

Jurgens continues Kelce’s legacy

Tom Blair of NFL.com did not hesitate to write and recommend that NFL and Eagles fans pay attention to Cam’s plays, as everything indicates that it will be a promising season for him.

Stating that “the Tush Push Era lives” and considering himself “fully push-pilled,” he said that the play with which the team scores big points gives greater visibility to the offensive linemen. They are usually left out of the play, but this move gives players like Jurgens, “who handled the task of taking over for Jason Kelce with aplomb last season, earning his first career Pro Bowl nod,” explains Blair.

If Jurgens continues to establish himself alongside his more veteran linemates like Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, and Lane Johnson, he can help the Eagles keep, erm, ‘pushing’ the evolution of the game.

And based on his words, we could say that he is not only pushing his game, but also his wallet and his own name.

The truth is that in 2026, his contract extension with Philadelphia will take effect, receiving $68 million with $39 million guaranteed, consolidating his place in the team. Thus, his $17 million per year makes him the second highest paid center in the league, behind only Creed Humphrey of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, Cam Jurgens is preparing to continue leading the Eagles’ offensive line and making his mark on the team and the NFL.
