Caitlin Clark’s message to fans: “2026, let’s get it!”

As 2025 draws to a close, Caitlin Clark offered one of the most candid reflections of her young WNBA career, a message that struck a chord with fans, teammates, and observers of the league alike.

Clark, the Indiana Fever All-Star guard who entered her sophomore season amid skyhigh expectations, took to Instagram on Tuesday night to share a carousel of personal and professional moments from the past year.

The images, from rehab sessions and family time to life on and off the court, were accompanied by a simple but pointed caption: “2025 you were a year… 2026 I welcome you with open arms, let’s get it.”

For Clark, who emerged as a transcendent figure in women’s basketball, lifting viewership and cultural attention to the WNBA over her first two seasons, 2025 was defined by adversity.

A right groin injury sustained in midJuly sidelined her after just 13 games and ultimately forced her to miss the remainder of the WNBA season.

She announced the decision in early September, saying at the time, “disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling.”

She thanked her supporters then, as she does now: “I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty,” she wrote in her September announcement, acknowledging the frustration of rehab while also noting the joy she found in the unwavering support from Fever fans and the resilience of her teammates.

A pivotal moment for Clark and the league

Just as significant as her Instagram post was Clark‘s messaging about the state of women’s basketball.

Beyond personal disappointment, she has used her platform to address structural questions facing the WNBA, particularly the ongoing collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations between the league and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association.

After attending USA Basketball training camp in December, Clark made it clear she views the negotiations as a defining moment for the sport.

“This is the biggest moment in the history of the WNBA,” Clark said, emphasizing that players and owners must find a way to continue playing.

“It’s not something that can be messed up,” she added, stressing the importance of compromise so that games stay on the floor and fans continue to show up.

Legendary WNBA star Candace Parker, for example, applauded Clark‘s choice to step back in order to safeguard her future.

“I’m proud of this generation for taking the time they need to look at the bigger picture,” Parker said back in September, noting the wisdom in listening to one’s body and focusing on longevity in the game.

Clark‘s voice in the negotiation process shows how central her influence is, one whose actions resonate far beyond box scores.

The WNBA enters 2026 with both anticipation and uncertainty, as players and owners push to finalize a deal that reflects the league’s growth and ambition.
