Caitlin Clark‘s offseason has taken an unexpected, and amusing, turn.
The Indiana Fever star found herself correcting teammate Sophie Cunningham after a lighthearted golf mistake went viral, proving that even away from the basketball court, Clark’s competitive spirit and quick wit are never on break.
With Clark set to compete at the ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge ProAm on November 12 at Pelican Golf Club in Florida, the WNBA standout will be joined on the green not just by world-class golfers but by her teammates.
Cunningham and Lexie Hull will serve as celebrity caddies for Clark, a role the players themselves requested after the Fever announced her return to the event.
Cunningham‘s excitement spilled over into Instagram, where she posted a story celebrating the opportunity, captioned “Four!!!”, using the number “4” instead of the golf term “fore.” The moment didn’t go unnoticed.
Clark reposted the story with a pointed message:
“Yeah, clearly we have a lot to learn about golf… it’s ‘fore’ bud.”
Cunningham‘s blunder may be small, but the significance behind the trio’s upcoming appearance at a marquee golf event is noteworthy.
Clark, already a blockbuster figure in the WNBA, will be teeing it up alongside top LPGA players like Nelly Korda and legendary golfer Annika Sorenstam, as part of her ambassador role for tournament sponsor Gainbridge.
For Cunningham and Hull, the roles of caddies represent a different kind of spotlight in their association with Clark and the Fever‘s broader brand.
Cunningham in particular has sharpened her media presence in recent months, with a podcast deal, endorsement partnerships, and increased social-media visibility all pointing to a rising profile.
A fun pivot from hardwood to fairway
For Clark, who struggled through an injury-shortened season with the Fever, the Pro-Am offers a refreshing pivot.
She has said in statements that she’s “honored” to return, and that the fairways give her a less pressured arena to engage fans, represent women’s sports, and enjoy competition in a different form.
Golf has become a platform where athletes let their personalities show in a relaxed environment.
Clark herself played in the same event last year at Pelican Golf Club, and her participation was noted as a way to amplify fan engagement and cross-sport interest.
Clark had previously expressed enthusiasm for the tournament, saying: “I had an amazing time at The Annika last November and participating in the Pro-Am alongside Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam, two of the best in the game.
“I’m honoured to be an ambassador for a company in Gainbridge that is so committed to elevating women’s sports. I can’t wait to return to Tampa in November to play in the Pro-Am with the best women golfers in the world.”
