Caitlin Clark’s brother gets fed up and blames referees for Indiana Fever star’s new groin injury in deleted message

The Indiana Fever pulled off another gritty win on July 15, edging the Connecticut Sun to improve to 12-10 on the 2025 WNBA season.

But despite the victory, all eyes shifted away from the scoreboard in the final moments. Star guard Caitlin Clark appeared to suffer a groin injury, potentially the same one that sidelined her earlier this season, with less than a minute to go in the game.

The concerning sequence happened just after Clark delivered an assist to teammate Kelsey Mitchell. After making the pass, Clark immediately began favoring her leg and clutched the area near her groin.

The broadcast footage captured her grimacing as she spoke briefly with Aliyah Boston before walking over to the basket stanchion and resting her forehead against it.

Shortly after, Clark made her way to the Fever bench, wrapped a towel over her head, and never returned to action. ESPN’s cameras showed her visibly emotional, with some moments appearing to show her holding back tears.

Colin Clark lashes out over physical play and officiating

What made the moment even more tense was the build-up. Throughout the game, Clark was subject to heavy, physical defense from the Sun, drawing visible frustration from the guard and prompting heated conversations with referees.

Her reaction wasn’t unique, many fans and analysts have raised concerns about how aggressively opponents are allowed to guard Clark without whistles.

But it was Caitlin‘s younger brother, Colin Clark, who made the strongest public statement shortly after the incident. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Colin didn’t hold back:

“Make no mistake, this is on the reffing,” Colin Clark said on X, which amassed over 100,000 views in less than 20 minutes.

Although the post was later deleted, a screenshot of the message quickly made the rounds online. Many interpreted Colin‘s remarks as a criticism of the referees for failing to control overly physical play, suggesting that the lack of calls may have contributed indirectly to his sister’s injury.

“Caitlin Clark’s brother Colin alludes to reffing playing a role in her injury,” a tweet from @CClarkReport read, accompanying the reposted image.

While there’s no official confirmation yet on the severity of Clark‘s latest injury, the concern is amplified due to her recent medical history. Clark already missed time earlier this season with a groin issue and has dealt with a string of hard fouls and bumps that some feel push the boundaries of WNBA physicality.
