Connor McCaffery is making sure the world knows exactly who Caitlin Clark is after her triumphant return to the international stage.

As the Indiana Fever superstar secured the Most Valuable Player trophy at the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, McCaffery, an assistant coach for the Butler Bulldogs and Clark’s boyfriend since 2023, was among the first to celebrate her comeback.

Sharing a post from the Fever that detailed her tournament-leading statistics, McCaffery added a succinct, one-word caption to his Instagram Stories that captured the magnitude of the moment: “HER.”

The brief but powerful endorsement highlighted a deep sense of pride as Clark navigated a high-pressure return to competition following nearly a year on the sidelines.

The emotional weight of the victory stems from the road Clark traveled to reach the podium in San Juan. This tournament marked her official debut with the senior U.S. National Team and served as her first competitive appearance in eight months.

The 24-year-old’s sophomore WNBA season was cut short in July 2025 due to a persistent groin injury, which was further complicated by a significant bone bruise in her left ankle during her recovery.

Despite the long layoff and the “rust” many expected, Clark silenced critics in the opening match against Senegal, recording a dominant 17-point, 12-assist double-double that set the pace for the remainder of the qualifiers.

MVP CC leads Team USA to undefeated sweep

The accolades for Clark, now affectionately dubbed “MVP CC” by the Indiana Fever organization, were backed by a tournament-high efficiency rating.

Over the course of five games, she tallied team-high totals of 58 points and 32 assists, guiding the Americans to a perfect 5-0 record and a clean sweep of Group A.

USA Basketball amplified the celebration by referring to the guard as “MVP CC12” across social media, acknowledging her role as the primary engine of the U.S. backcourt.

While some critics initially questioned her selection over other veteran contributors, the production scores solidified her standing as the most impactful player on the court.
