Caitlin Clark Warns USA Basketball: If she’s not selected for Los Angeles 2028, she’ll switch to flag football

Would Caitlin Clark betray the US women’s basketball team? With the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games just over three years away, the Indiana Fever star announced that if all else fails, she will try her luck in a different sport: flag football.

Every four years, the Olympic Games feature several exhibition sports aimed at engaging the local audience. Paris 2024 showcased breaking, sport climbing, surfing, and skateboarding. Some of these disciplines aspire to join the Olympic calendar permanently, while others are temporary additions.

For Los Angeles 2028, the International Olympic Committee has approved five exhibition sports: baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse, squash, and flag football. As expected, some NFL stars want to be on the team. What no one expected, however, was that Clark also wanted a spot.

Basketball vs. flag football: Clark’s dilemma

The Indiana Fever star attended the NFL Annual League Meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, as a guest, where she hinted at this bold possibility: “Maybe LA 2028, maybe I’ll do two sports,” Clark revealed. “Or if basketball doesn’t work out, I’ll head over to flag football.”

Throughout her childhood and teenage years, the Fever guard excelled in multiple sports, including softball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, and golf. Even today, she hones her golf skills during breaks from basketball. Her versatility and athleticism make the prospect of her trying flag football intriguing.

Media and fans have raised questions about whether the rules would permit Clark to compete in both sports or make the leap to flag football. The answer, it seems, is yes.

SA Football welcomes Caitlin Clark

USA Football Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck addressed the speculation in a statement to TMZ Sports, confirming that nothing would prevent Clark from joining the US flag football team in 2028-provided she follows the selection process.

“USA Football is going to assemble the best possible team for the Los Angeles Olympics, and crossover athletes have already proven they can compete in flag football at the highest levels,” Hallenbeck stated. However, he added, “There’s a process, and each player will have to earn their spot for LA28.”

While it’s unlikely Clark is serious about switching sports, fans are eager to see what she decides. If USA Basketball overlooks her again, as they did for Paris 2024, Caitlin Clark might still represent the USA at the Los Angeles Olympics-perhaps in a flag football jersey.
