Caitlin Clark used the advent of social media for meteoric rise, but her consistency was the key

Basketball fans were left wanting a lot more in 2025 from Caitlin Clark. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, as the WNBA sophomore dealt with a variety of injuries over the course of her second professional season.

The Indiana Fever were able to rally without Clark, reaching the semifinals of the WNBA Playoffs, but they sorely missed Clark’s scoring prowess against the Las Vegas Aces. Heading into the 2026 WNBA season, Clark is hoping the true breakout is coming soon.

For a player with such high standards, a breakout would consist of an MVP-type season. Those are the standards Clark set by herself during a legendary collegiate career at Iowa, where she helped spark a revolution for women’s basketball in general.

Ryan Ruocco believes Caitlin Clark’s “logo bombs” helped her gain notoriety

There’s no denying Clark’s impact on the game, but it’s fair to wonder if she would have been able to create the same type of noise in previous generations. In the eyes of basketball journalist Ryan Ruocco, that may not have been the case, as Clark’s “logo bombs” going viral on social media played a crucial role in her ascent.

Ruocco points out the difference between Clark and others who have made the rounds on social media with similar shots: Clark has been able to sustain her success with incredible consistency.

Sure, Clark had tons of splash plays where she was shooting from a different zip code, but she complemented those plays with rebounds, assists and a supremely positive effect on her team. By combining all of that together, she led Iowa to back-to-back national championship appearances.

Now, she’s looking to bring that same type of consistency to the Fever. If injuries don’t plague her, there’s no one doubting that she can accomplish anything in the WNBA.
